2.3mm EL Wire is used for most general purpose applications. It is extremely flexible. 3.2mm EL Wire is also a great general purpose wire though slightly less flexible than the 2.3. It does offer added U.V. protection and of course a larger look. 5mm EL Wire is very durable and is well suited for outdoor applications. It has extra U.V. protection and is still very flexible. All of our inverters are available with an EZ-Connector. This allows you to use any of the different styles, sizes and colors of EL Wire available on our EZ-Connection EL Wire section without ever having to do any soldering. EL Wire inverters are not compatible with Cold Cathodes, and vice-versa. EZ-Connectors Electro luminescent wire requires an inverter also known as a driver in order to illuminate the el wire to its full brightness levels. Although the el wire can be attached directly to an ac power source, it will only obtain a very low level of brightness without the aid of an inverter.
